Kristin Romey, National Geographic, has written a brief summary article about recent findings linking the rise and fall of Cahokia, a Mississippian city-state, near present-day St. Louis, which flourished in A.D. 1200 to flooding of the Mississippi River.
"The researchers discovered that changes in the magnitude and frequency of the newly identified floods correspond with archaeological evidence for changes in population, land use, and settlement over the full history of Cahokia."
