The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma was welcomed at a World Heritage
Celebration at Newark's Great Circle earthwork on June 24, 2013. Among the noted
speakers were ESTO Chief Glenna Wallace, the first female Chief in tribal
history.
The public event featured tours of the earthworks led by Ohio Historical Society's Curator of Archaeology Dr. Bradly Lepper, as well as atlatl demonstrations, food, and native singing.
The event concluded with guests being led into the Great Circle to enjoy the sunset as the ancients once did.
